Digital / Computer Lab
Computer-based subjects like product design and graphic design are totally dependent on facilities of a laboratory having all the computer facilities required in these specializations. It is almost unthinkable to visualize a designer working without the aid of computer on a design which could take hours and hours of painstaking effort to give visual options for the required design. The world is moving at a breakneck speed in almost every walk of life and designing is now also being done at same pace. Almost 90% work is done through computers or electronic media. Therefore, the role of computer labs is an important factor in the matrix of education as well as for commercial aspects. Although computer is a household name these days yet it requires special understanding of its language. It is evident from the formative school syllabus where children are given basic knowledge of computer at a very early stage. In higher seats of learning like universities, the computer labs have become as important as the heart to the human body. In the Department of Design (PID) both the subject’s product and graphic design are taught at a high level comparable to their foreign counterparts. Therefore, the need for computer labs cannot be underemphasized. In the existing labs at the Department of Design (PID) (figure 4) a large number of students can work at a time on computer working on various assignments given by the instructors. Although the new entrants may have some basic knowledge yet more complex software needed for the subjects are taught to them making their studies easier as well as cutting down on working time. This lab also facilitates the students with the facility of plotting and printing. In this lab basics related to Microsoft Office, Corel Draw, Free Hand, Adobe Photoshop, Auto Cad, 3d Studio Max is taught.
